Obafemi Martins is back in the headlines following his first half opening goal for Levante in their 2-0 win over hosts Deportivo La Coruna in the Spanish La Liga on Saturday.
It was Martins’ fifth goal of the season since joining from Russia ’s Rubin Karzan in the summer and it went a long way in boosting Levante’s confidence before Jose Barkero doubled the lead in the 80th minute.
The former Inter Milan striker came close to scoring in the second half of the tension-soaked game but his efforts were thwarted on each occasion before being substituted for Spanish forward Angel Diaz in the 81st minute.
The win takes Levante to fourth in the log, just six points behind Real Madrid.
Ikechukwu Uche also returned to scoring ways with his brace for Villarreal in the 3-0 away win over Racing Satander on Saturday. The two goals made it five for Uche in the Spanish second division this season. It was his second brace in less than a month.
“Good feeling of the team and a win that gives us confidence to keep working just as hard. A hug to everyone,” Uche twitted in Spanish after the game.
Former Kano Pillars forward Ahmed Musa scored his eighth goal of the season in seven matches for CSKA Moscow on Sunday as the Army Men secured their fifth win in a row, beating Amkar Perm 3-0 at the Olympic Stadium.
Musa was on target in the 73rd minute after Rasmus Elm had opened scoring in the 25th. The Nigerian also got some accolades in added time when he made the final to Aleksandrs Cauņa to score the third goal of the game.
Michael Eneramo and Kalu Uche were not as lucky with their respective teams in Turkey as they settled for draws in their different matches.
