2 passengers with firearms arrested at Lagos airport

FEDERAL Airports Authority of Nigeria, FAAN, security officials, have arrested two passengers with firearms at both wings of the Murtala Mohammed Airport, Lagos.
Disclosing this development to newsmen yesterday, General Manager Corporate Communications of FAAN, Mr. Yakubu Dati, said both passengers were arrested at separate intervals upon arrival at the airport.
He said the firearms were found in their luggage, explaining that one of the passengers was arrested with a pistol in his luggage at the Murtala Mohammed International Airport, MMIA, Lagos on Wednesday while the other passenger was apprehended on his way from Lagos to Port-Harcourt aboard Aero Contractors flight at the Domestic wing of the Murtala Mohammed Airport, MMA2, Lagos on Thursday.

5 Eagles Named In AFCON 2013 Best 11

Five Nigerian players have been named among the best 11 players from the Africa Cup of Nations 2011.

They are Vincent Enyeama (goalkeeper), Efe Ambrose (defender), John Mikel Obi (midfielder), Victor Moses (winger) and Emmanuel Emenike (striker).

The ‘dream team’ includes man of the tournament, Jonathan Pitroipa and his compatriot, Bakary Kone, Mali’s Seydou Keita, Ghana’s striker Asamoah Gyan, amongs others.

Indie pop band fun., rockers The Black Keys and Australian-Belgian singer Gotye shared the top prizes Sunday at the Grammys, in an eclectic year for the music industry’s biggest awards show.
The New York-based fun. won Song of the Year for “We Are Young” as well as best new artist at the 55th Grammy Awards held at the Staples Center amid tight security as Los Angeles police hunt a former cop wanted for multiple murders.

Supposed underdogs Nigeria downed favourites Ivory Coast 2-1 on Sunday in an absorbing Africa Cup of Nations quarter-final to set up a last-four meeting with Mali.
Sunday Mba grabbed the winner 12 minutes from time after Ivory Coast’s Cheik Tiote had cancelled out Emmanuel Emenike’s first-half opener.
Mba’s strike brought the curtain down on Didier Drogba’s Nations Cup career, sending the African legend home without the title he and his teammates craved.

Rev King Must Die Says Appeal Court

A Court of Appeal sitting in Lagos, Southwest Nigeria, Friday affirmed the judgement of a Lagos High Court delivered on 11 January, 2007 that the General Overseer of Christian Praying Assembly, Chukwuemeka Ezeugo (alias Rev. King) should die by hanging for the murder of Ann Uzoh, one his church members.

2,671 Candidates Admited out of 41,367 For 2012/2013 Academic Session

Prof. Isaac Adewole, Vice-Chancellor(V-C), University of Ibadan, on Friday said the institition admitted 2,671 candidates out of 41,367 candidates who applied for the 2012/2013 academic session.
Adewole said this in Ibadan while speaking at the matriculation ceremony held at the International Conference Centre of the university.
The V-C disclosed that 75 students of 100 level for 2011/2012 session were asked to withdraw from the university for failure to meet the institution’s academic requirements.
While noting that the university had built a reputation for itself as an institution of first choice, Adewole assured the students that the college had the relevant resources to make them the best they wanted to be in life.

'Dead' Woman Comes Back To Life At Her Funeral




Mourners nearly died of shock when a 101-year-old woman sat up and spoke - as she was being put in her coffin.

Peng Xiuhua asked why so many people were in her house in Lianjiang, Guangdong province, China.

Peng, who lived alone, had taken a tumble and hurt herself so her two daughters, who are in their 70s, were looking after her.

However, 10 days later her daughters could not detect a heartbeat and her body had gone stiff so she was declared dead.

The daughters gave her a bath, an undertaker dressed her and they were about to put her in her coffin when she came back to life.

Peng said: “I am a lucky woman.

"Not only did I get to see how many people care for me, but I also woke up before they took me to the crematorium,” she said.

JTF kills 17 Islamists in raid in Borno

Nigeria’s Joint Military tasks Force (JTF) on Friday said it killed 17 insurgents in raids on two “terrorist camps” in the embattled northeastern state of Borno, the base of Islamist group Boko Haram.
The military “conducted two special operations supported by Nigerian Airforce helicopter gunship to dislodge Boko Haram terrorist camps,” a statement from spokesman Lt. Col. Sagir Musa said, adding “there was a fierce exchange of gunfire that resulted in the death of 17″ insurgents and one soldier.
The statement is the first recent confirmation of a Boko Haram training camp or base, although the military has frequently commented on insurgent safe houses in urban settings.

THE Benue State Police Command, yesterday, arrested the pastor of a new generation church in Katsina-Ala (names withheld) for illegal possession of fire arms and assault on the church’s accountant.

There was pandemonium this morning at Mando Afaka area of  Kaduna State when the body of a middle-aged man was found dangling on a mango tree.
The name of the victim suspected to have killed himself could not be ascertained as at time of filing this report.
However, men of Nigerian Police, Kaduna command have taken custody of the body. The body was brought down by the police and taken to a hospital for further examination.
His mobile phone was also retrieved from him and some contacts were made to reach his relations. More details later.

Breaking News: Ex-Police pension boss, Yakubu Yusuf jailed

An Abuja court Monday afternoon, sentenced former police pension boss, Yakubu Yusuf to Two  years in prison for embezzling N23bn.
He pleaded guilty to the embezzlement of N23.3 billion and is to forfeit property valued at N325 million. However, he was given an option to pay a fine of N250 thousand. More Details later....
