Entertainment: I'm Back And Better.

Top Nollywood actress,Grace Amah, who has been missing on screen for some time now may have finalised plans to stage a comeback to her first love-acting.
Amah took a break early last year in order  to have her son abroad. Since then, she has been missing on screen.

*Grace and son
The Actress was spotted at a celebrity event last week in Lagos, where  she announced return to acting after months of disappearing from the screen.
“I stayed off the screen all these months to be able to nurture my baby. But now, I’m back  again in full force. At the moment, I have featured in two movies which are yet to be released.”Amah said.

News: N4.24 billion paid to the Federal Government, and nobody is sure who has the money.

SOME things are better not said. Nigeria’s attitude to accountability casts slurs on any efforts to fight corruption and the criminalities it sustains.
How can $26.5 million (about N4.24 billion) be paid to the Federal Government, and nobody is sure who has the money? Why would it take America’s prompting for government to act on the matter?
A $180 million scam involving Halliburton has seen people jailed abroad, others fined, including the construction company, Julius Berger, but in Nigeria, instead of those alleged to be involved to be prosecuted, it is the fine of $26.5 million Berger paid that is missing.
President Goodluck Jonathan’s instruction to the Attorney General of the Federation Mohammed Bello Adoke to recover the money is instructive. There are conflicting statements from Berger, the police and the Office of the Accountant General of the Federation on the money.
One account said the money was with the Accountant General of the Federation. Another said it was with the Attorney General. How would government be unable to trace the money, which Berger paid for a plea bargain?
Nigeria has not investigated the scam in a satisfactory manner. The refusal to try those indicted could be part of the inattentiveness in the matter that made it possible for $26.5 million that should have been recovered to be missing.
Mr. Jeffery Tesler, a Halliburton official, jailed for the scam, listed Nigerian officials who benefitted from bribes paid to them to gain favourable considerations in LNG contracts. Tesler said he used Berger as a conduit for the money which was used to bribe top government functionaries and some prominent Nigerians.
Only a former Special Assistant on Domestic Affairs to former President Olusegun Obasanjo was charged to court. The case instituted in 2010 is still on.
The new scandal became public two weeks ago, when the US government, in response to Nigeria’s request to release the balance of the bribe money held up in a US bank asked Nigeria to account for the plea bargain money.
The additional condition the US gave for releasing the money is prosecution of those involved in the scam.
Our concerns centre on the lax application of accountability in government affairs. The Halliburton money may be only an instance.
There are many cases of money the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, recovered that nobody knows where the money is. What would make government ask for accounts of the money?
Governments should be worried about their accounting standards. The standards have been lowered so much they invite insult from the likes of the US government.
Halliburton money is not missing, we simply have a scandal within a scandal.

Sport: John Utaka Promised 120% Effort If He Is Picked For Next Year's AFCON.

John Utaka has promised a 120% effort for Nigeria if he is picked for next year’s AFCON in South Africa.
The striker, who made a goal-scoring return for French champions Montpellier at the weekend against Nice after he was sidelined by a groin injury, told MTNFootball.com his commitment to Nigeria is not negotiable.
“It’s the coach who decides who to invite, but for me any time I am given the chance, I will give a 120% for my country, said Utaka, who started two qualifiers under Stephen Keshi in June.
Utaka started 2014 World Cup qualifiers against Namibia and Malawi and was then dropped for the 2013 AFCON qualifier at home against Rwanda after he fired blank in both games.
He said Nigeria have the quality to win a third Nations Cup trophy in South Africa because Keshi has made remarkable progress with the team since he took charge last year.
“We have what it takes to win the Nations Cup in South Africa,” he said.
“Coach Keshi has been doing a great job and anyone who is following the work of the coach will admit that huge progress has been made.”
However, he warned that a first round group that pitches the Eagles against defending champions Zambia, Burkina Faso and Ethiopia ought not to be taken lightly.
“I have seen our group and I must confess that no team in that group is easy. Africa football is a different ball game and you know that any country that files out against Nigeria wants to make history by beating Nigeria,” he warned.

Sport: Super Falcons Commended By NFA.

The Nigeria Football Association on Monday lauded the Senior Women National Team, the Super Falcons and the U-17 National Team, the Golden Eaglets, over their brilliant performances.
The Falcons on Monday in Bata, Equatorial Guinea, edged Cameroon’s Lionesses 2-1 to pick up three vital points in their opening match of Group B at the 8th African Women Championship.
The Eaglets had on Sunday thrashed their Guinean counterparts 4-0 in Conakry in the second leg of their 2013 African U-17 Championship, to qualify for the final round of qualification series on a 7-0 aggregate.
Emeka Inyama, the Chairman of the NFA Media and Publicity Committee, said the performances of both teams came on the heels of excellent outings by the Flying Eagles and the Super Eagles who qualified for next year’s African championships.
“The NFA is delighted that our National Teams are now giving their all in important games and we will continue to ensure the teams prepare well for major championships within the limits of our resources.
“The Eaglets, in a way, avenged the defeat of the Super Eagles in Conakry during the qualifying series for the 2012 African Cup of Nations.
“The Falcons on the other hand have now paid the Cameroonians back for that penalty shoot-out blot that stopped our girls from the London 2012 Olympics,” Inyama said.
NFA flew the Falcons to Ghana for a one-week final training camp before the tournament and also hiked the team’s win-bonus to 3,000 dollars per player.
Musa Amadu, the NFA General Secretary, assured that the Association would give every support to the Falcons in their next match against Ethiopia on Thursday and for the Eaglets in their final round of qualifiers against Mali.
“We are already putting arrangements in place for the Eaglets to return to Calabar immediately they come back from Guinea on Tuesday,” Amadu said.
“This is for them to start preparation for the first leg match against Mali, which comes up on Nov.18.
“Gov. Liyel Imoke and the wonderful people of Cross River State have been very supportive and we appreciate them.
“As for the Falcons, we are putting heads together to see how we can further motivate them to fire from all cylinders against Ethiopia, as a win in that match will guarantee our semi final place even before the clash with Cote d’Ivoire on Sunday

News: Nigerian ‘witchcraft’ sex trafficker Jails For 20-Years In UK.

A Nigerian sex trafficker who used witchcraft rituals to silence the teenage girls he smuggled into Britain for prostitution was jailed for 20 years on Monday.
Osezua Osolase, 42, tricked three impoverished Nigerian orphans into travelling to Britain before attempting to sell them to gangs in Europe for prostitution.
The recycling plant worker, who lived in Kent, southeast England, used west African juju rituals to instill terror in the three girls, aged 14, 16 and 17.
“You are undoubtedly a very, very dishonest man,” said judge Adele Williams as she sentenced him at Canterbury Crown Court in Kent.
“You are arrogant and manipulative; you are devoid of conscience, devoid of any compassion to your victims.”
Osolase, who has HIV, was found guilty after a six-week trial on Friday of five counts of trafficking for sexual exploitation, one count of rape and one of sexual activity with a child.
The fact that he had raped one girl knowing that he has HIV was a “seriously aggravating” factor, Williams said.
It was recommended that Osolase be deported once he has served his sentence.
He had convinced the girls to travel to Britain with fake Nigerian passports by promising them an education and modelling careers, the court heard.
He was stopped at Stansted Airport, north of London, in April last year while attempting to board a plane.
His 16-year-old victim told police that he had performed a juju ritual on her in Nigeria in which blood was taken from her and hair was cut from her head and genitals.
She was then made to swear an oath of silence.
Police believe there were at least 25 victims of Osolase’s trafficking ring, which smuggled girls into Britain before passing them on to gangs in countries including Italy and Spain.

Entertainment: '' The most unanticipated and hated song became the most talked about".

It's no longer a story that Tonto Dikeh's song has become a topic of discussion recently. The Nollywood diva who recently had a chat with a female blogger confessed that though she loves her acting career, she is not in any way going to jump into music full time. ''I love my acting career and I don't see myself jumping into full time music. I am however shooting the musical video of my songs,I will not let the hating stop me, '' she said.
Tonto also said that despite the critics and bad belle syndrome, her song has received a thumb up from youtube withing a week for 5.2m downloads. '' The most unanticipated and hated song became the most talked about, most controversial, most downloaded and of course the most listened song. I feel great, no regrets.!''
You have heard it all, Tonto seems not deterred by whatever anyone says about her incursion into music world. Despite the monstrous negative response, this is what the delectable actress said '' I love music and I wanted to do my own thing, to contribute my own music. I listened to my songs over and over again and I told myself I did well. In all, I see only the positivity in it, I made History. People's opinion of how my music was has further strengthened my belief that dreams die when you let the next man's opinion get to you and I am using now to pass a message to everyone out there, if you can just do it. Don't let anyone's opinion kill whatever dream you have or try to stop you from taking the next step. ''

Sport: Manchester United a dramatic 3-2 victory against nine-man Chelsea.

Javier Hernandez’s controversial winning goal gave Manchester United a dramatic 3-2 victory against nine-man Chelsea at Stamford Bridge on Sunday. The result ensured Alex Ferguson’s side reduced the gap on Roberto Di Matteo’s Premier League leaders to just one point, but the Blues were left fuming at the performance of referee Mark Clattenburg.
Chelsea had recovered from falling behind to a David Luiz own goal and a Robin van Persie strike to level through goals from Juan Mata and Ramires when Branislav Ivanovic was sent off for a 63rd-minute foul on Ashley Young.
More contentious, though, was the second yellow card shown to Fernando Torres five minutes later, after the referee had decided the striker dived following a challenge by Jonny Evans.
Replays suggested there had been contact between the two players and the decision sparked fury on the Chelsea bench that led to a touchline altercation between Ferguson and Di Matteo’s staff.
Worse was to come for the home side, with substitute Hernandez clinching victory in the 75th minute with a close-range finish from what appeared to be an offside position.
The events of the final half hour ensured the match ended in controversy but before that it had already been a thrilling encounter.
The pre-match handshake between Rio Ferdinand and Ashley Cole, together with the absence of John Terry — who is serving a four-match ban for racially abusing Ferdinand’s brother, Anton — removed a potential flashpoint.
But the subsequent 90 minutes more than made up for it.
It was United who started the game with the greater urgency and were clearly driven by the motivation to keep Di Matteo’s side within their sights at the head of the table.
While United quickly got into their stride, attacking fluently down their right-hand flank, Chelsea’s defence looked disjointed and nervous, and the absence of Terry was telling.
Petr Cech was called into action after less than three minutes when van Persie drilled in a stinging left-foot shot from outside the area.
But the home goalkeeper had no chance of preventing United taking the lead 60 seconds later after Wayne Rooney had worked his way to the byline and pulled back for van Persie, whose shot crashed off the post and into the net via the back of Luiz.
The second came just eight minutes later after another lightning move down the United right.
Goalkeeper David De Gea started the move by rolling the ball out to Ferdinand and it ended with van Persie sweeping the ball home from Antonio Valencia’s low cross.
Chelsea looked in desperate trouble, while United were rampant.
Slowly, though, the home side worked their way back into the game and when they were finally able to play to their strengths in the attacking third, the momentum of the game shifted dramatically.
Suddenly it was De Gea who was the busier of the two keepers and the young Spaniard kept his side in it before Mata eventually halved the deficit shortly before the interval.
Rooney fouled Eden Hazard on the edge of the United area, allowing Mata to curl a precise free-kick around the wall and beyond the reach of De Gea.
Di Matteo’s side continued where they had left off after the break and were level eight minutes into the second period when Ramires headed home from Oscar’s cross.
At that point the game was perfectly poised, before an incident-packed five-minute spell left Chelsea with nine men and United poised for victory.
Ivanovic was first to see red in the 63rd minute when he tripped Young as the United winger was bearing down on goal after being played in by van Persie.
And when Torres followed five minutes later, it was always going to be an enormous task for Chelsea to hold on.
But their sense of injustice was further fuelled by Hernandez’s strike after the Mexico forward turned home Rafael’s drilled cross.

Suicide Bomber In Bauchi Again

What would resulted to another bloody Sunday at the Living Faith Church in Yelwa, a suburb of Bauchi Metropolis was averted when armed soldiers who swiftly acting on proactive measures, averted another bomb explosion .
It could be recalled that on the 3rd of June 2012, a suicide bomber rammed his vehicle at the Living Faith Church and the Harvest of Field Church, killing 21 while 45 others sustained injuries.
We gathered that the incident happened at around 11 am when most churches were holding services.
It was learnt that two suspected suicide bombers on a motorcycle disguised themselves as church members escaped security checks, but luck ran out of them when they decided to change their route which prompted the suspicion of the security men to go after them.
An eyewitness told us that the two suspected bombers were riding a motorcycle. He said one of the suicide bombers who was unlucky was caught by some good Samaritans at the Yelwa Makaranta area was while the other who was carrying the explosive to the targeted churches escaped.
The eyewitness added that the bombers were forced to divert their direction because the Joint Military Task Force had alerted Church security men to placed iron barricade to prevent suicide bombers from gaining access to their church premises, a development which made the bomber to abandon his motor cycle and take to his heels for safety.
It was gathered that the bomber made confessional statements to security and people around that indicted eminent religious leaders in the state as their sponsors with a promise to give details.

145 Wounded In Kaduna Church Bombing And 10 dead.

A suicide attacker drove a car bomb into a church on Sunday, sparking fierce reprisals that saw a Christian mob burn a man alive in day of a bloody of violence that left at least 10 people dead and 145 wounded.
Christian youths took to the streets of the northern city of Kaduna with machetes and sticks after the blast, targeting those they believed to be Muslims as anger again boiled over due to repeated church bombings in recent months.

Attackers beat a motorcycle taxi driver near the church, then put his bike on top of him before dousing him with petrol and setting him on fire, an AFP correspondent who saw the violence said. Two other bloodied bodies apparently killed by the mob were seen near the church.
A rescue official on condition of anonymity also spoke of the man being burnt and said rescuers could not save him because the mob was too violent.
The mob also attacked an ambulance in the ensuing violence, but there was no indication that rescuers were wounded.
“So far we have eight dead and 145 injured from the church blast,” Musa Ilallah, regional coordinator for the National Emergency Management Agency, told AFP, noting that his death toll included the suspected bomber.
The attacker rammed what residents said was an SUV into St. Rita church, shaking the Malali neighbourhood of Kaduna, a city that has suffered a wave of deadly violence blamed on Islamist extremist group Boko Haram.
“All of a sudden it drove on high speed and rammed into the church wall, forcing its way into the church premises,” said witness Samuel Emmanuel.
“Initially I thought the driver had lost control of the vehicle. Suddenly there was a huge explosion as the car reached the church building. It was dust, fire and smoke all over.”
A spokesman for Nigeria’s National Emergency Management Agency confirmed the bomb attack and said rescuers had been rushed to the scene.
“A number of casualties evacuated to hospitals,” said Yushau Shuaib. The incident was suspected to be triggered by a suicide bomber in a car.”
An AFP correspondent said mobs were yelling “why the church?” and some were carrying weapons, including machetes. Local elders were seeking to restore calm.
Residents had earlier spoken of clashes having broken out between Christian and Muslim residents.
The attack came after Friday’s Muslim Eid al-Adha holiday, but it was not clear if there was any link.
In June, Boko Haram claimed responsibility for three suicide attacks on churches in Kaduna state, where the city of Kaduna is located, which led to deadly rioting. Dozens of people were killed in the violence.
Boko Haram’s insurgency in northern and central Nigeria has led to more than 2,800 deaths since 2009. While Muslims have often been its victims, it has in recent months also specifically targeted churches.
President Goodluck Jonathan has said the group is seeking to incite a religious crisis in Africa’s most populous nation and largest oil producer, roughly divided between a mainly Muslim north and predominately Christian south.
Kaduna is a large mainly Muslim city in Nigeria’s north and includes a sizeable Christian population.
Nigerians have grown increasingly frustrated with security forces’ inability to stop Boko Haram attacks, and there have been warnings of more reprisals if the violence continued.
Some Evangelical church leaders in Nigeria have said Christians may be forced to defend themselves if something is not done to address the unrest.
