News: More students pass WASCE

Students in the FCT in 2012 scored 38.39 per cent credit pass in five WASCE subjects, including English and Mathematics, the FCT Education Secretary, Alhaji Kabir Usman, has said.
He disclosed this in Abuja at the 2012 Education Media Luncheon, saying FCT students had improved when compared with the 2011 result of 20.42 per cent credit pass.
The West African Examination Council conducts the yearly West African School Certificate Examinations (WASCE).

News: Pastor And 2 Members killed Over Land Dispute

Founder of Faith Builders Ministry, in Calabar, Cross River State, Rev. John Ene-Obong and two members of the church, have been allegedly killed over a land dispute.
Rev. Ene-Obong, who was allegedly killed penultimate Monday by irate youths over a land dispute in Ikot Ene-Obong community of the metropolis, was said to have returned to Nigeria from Canada barely a week before his death.

News: Gunmen killed 2 People And Kidnapped A French National, in Katsina

A group of 30 gunmen who stormed a residence in Katsina  where expatriate workers were staying kidnapped a French citizen after killing two people, police said Thursday.
“I can confirm the abduction of a French national,” the Katsina state police chief, Abdullahi Magaji, told AFP of the incident late Wednesday.

News:In Osun Robbery, 2 Killed And 5 Injured

At least two persons were yesterday shot dead by armed robbers while five people sustained serious injuries during a bank robbery in Ikirun, headquarters of Ifelodun Local Government Area of Osun state.
It was gathered that the bank robbery which lasted about 30 minutes could not be resisted by any security agent attached to the bank.

Don Jazzy, through a rep, has denied buying the Nicon Estate duplex where he currently resides for N160m. The rep confirmed that the top music producer indeed acquired a home in Lekki recently but not the one in the picture above that was reported all over the internet.

News: EFCC re-arrests Dangabar

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, Monday, said it has re-arrested one of the six persons accused of complicity in the alleged illegal diversion of N32.8 billion from police pension fund, Esai Dangabar, for interfering with the properties which the court had ordered forfeited to the federal government.
Dangabar is answering to a 16-count criminal charge alongside Mr. Atiku Abubakar Kigo, Ahmed Inuwa Wada, John Yakubu Yusufu, Mrs Veronica Ulonma Onyegbula and Sani Habila Zira.
EFCC had alleged that the accused persons, conspired and sequentially withdrew monies from Police Pension funds in an account domiciled at First Bank of Nigeria and shared it amongst themselves, adding that the 3rd accused person, Inuwa Wada, collected N18million from Unity Bank Plc, as his reward for retaining the Police Pension Account with the bank.

News: Okonjo-Iweala- Why my mother was kidnapped

The Coordinating Minister of the Economy and Minister of  Finace , Dr Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala revealed Monday that her
mother, Prof Kamene Okonjo was kidnapped by those who claimed their fuel subsidy payments were blocked and the non-release of SURE-P funds.
She said her mother was  neither given food nor water during her kidnap.
Professor Kamene Titi Okonjo,  the 82-year-old retired professor of Sociology at the University of Nigeria, UNN, Nsukka, was released  six days after a 10-man gang seized  her from her home at Ogwashi-Uku, Delta State.

Amid sobs, Amina narrated how her husband left the house on Saturday without the usual ‘prayer of agreement’ and how they had planned to meet in Abuja for  a  thanksgiving  service  for  President Goodluck Jonathan’s wife, Patience.

Nigerian Nollywood actress, Nkiru Sylvanus, has been kidnapped.

The fair-skinned actress, also working as Governor Rochas Okorocha’s special assistant was reportedly abducted Sunday afternoon in Owerri.Reports said her abductors are demanding N100 million ransom.
Ladies appear now to be the soft targets of the kidnapping industry.
In the last week, two other women were kidnapped. First was Professor Kamene Okonjo, the retired sociology professor and mother of Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, Nigeria’s minister of finance. A day after, in Ibadan, Titilayo, wife of Brig.General Oluwole Rotimi was also kidnapped. Though Okonjo had been released, the whereabouts of Mrs Oluwole Rotimi, remains unknown.
