Property worthy the sum of N187.8m, were allegedly destroyed when
soldiers went on rampage in Maiduguri, the Borno capital, about two
weeks ago, a committee report revealed .
The committee was set up by the Borno State Government to assess the
damages, allegedly caused by operatives of the Joint Military Task
Force, (JTF ) in Gwnage ward.
Presenting the report on Monday to Governor Kashim Shettima, chairman
of the committee, Baba Bashir Garbai said the breakdown of the report
indicated that 142 houses/ shops, 21 vehicles and 14 tricyles were
destroyed in the incident.
Garbai, who doubles as the Commissioner for Local Governments, said
the committee has carried out its assignment with fairness and justice
Receiving the report, the governor commended members of the
committee for a well done job, promising to commence payment of
compensation to the victims to minimize their sufferings.
“Government is delighted with your work, I assure that before the end
of the week, we will purchase vehicles and distribute to those that
lost their own in the incident”, Shettima told the committee.
