The Kebbi State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB) has blamed
school principals over the delay in the payment of allowances to NYSC
members who staged a protest on Wednesday.
The corps member had staged a protest and disrupted activities at the
SUBEB headquarters in Birnin Kebbi demanding payment of their
allowances.
The board’s Public Relations Officer, Malam Bello Bagudo, told
newsmen on Thursday that the principals failed to submit the authentic
lists of corps members posted to their schools for prompt payment of
their allowances.
He said the board appreciated the role of NYSC members in the education system, considering the dearth of teachers in the state.
Bagudo said the payment had been made to those who had evidence of
posting to the schools involved but added that the process of payment
for 125 corps members had been delayed due to their late clearance.
“The board would ensure that payment to corps members was not delayed
in future considering the significant role played by corps members,’’
he said. (NAN)
