News: Obanikoro’s Supporters Protest

Supporters of Mr. Babajide Ibrahim Obanikoro, son of former Nigeria High Commissioner to Ghana, Musiliu Obanikoro, who was declared winner of the Ikoyi-Obalende Local Council Development Area by the Lagos state election tribunal, today protested in court over the indefinite adjournment of the appeal filed by ACN candidate, Adewale Adeniji
A five man election petition tribunal had last month nullified the declaration of Adewale Adeniji, as winner of the election in the LCDA and declared Mr Obanikoro the duly elected chairman for the area.
The tribunal held that Obanikoro won the election with 3,780 votes as against Mr Adeniji who scored 3,248 votes.

In a swift reaction to the Judgment Mr. Adeniji filed an appeal over the judgment.
The appeal court as at the last sitting over the matter, adjourned the case indefinitely following a petition challenging the constitution of the appeal panel
Obanikoro’s supporters who staged a protest today at the Ikeja High Court noted that the indefinite adjournment of the matter was an attempt to frustrate the verdict and allow Mr. Adeniji to continue to remain as the LCDA chairman.
The protesters who carried various placards with numerous inscriptions said they will resist any attempt to frustrate the judgment delivered by the election tribunal.
One of the protesters, Abiodun Komolafe told P.M. News that they suspect foul play with the indefinite adjournment of the ACN appeal and the continued stay of Mr. Adeniji as the chairman of the LCDA.
“Why should the appeal court adjourn this matter indefinitely. We suspect foul play and this is why we are protesting. The election tribunal has declared Obanikoro as the rightful winner of the Ikoyi-Obalende LCDA election and the right thing for LASIEC to do is swear him in as chairman” he said.
Neither Obanikoro nor his counsels were in court.
